BOOK REVIEW : TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN
Author- John Green
"Anybody can look at you. It's quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see."
It's not just another young adult(YA) novel, it's about some human behaviours which most of us fail to understand. There is a society stigma to such behaviours. The quote mentioned above is exactly what the author is trying to make us do, i.e, see the world through the eyes of people with such behaviours.
This novel deals with issues like anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and these issues are dealt with in depth so we should take the initiative of reading about them through a YA novel at-least if not researching about them ourselves.
A teenager named Aza tries very hard to remain in the present but her mind keeps wandering off to the ever tightening spiral of her own thoughts. One day she comes across a mystery of a missing billionaire, she decides to solve it and so her life takes an interesting turn.
The two plots of anxiety and mystery are kept very well together as they don't lose each other at any point in the novel. This novel is basically from the mindset of a person with anxiety and I'll be honest it does make some people cringe (I did) while reading the in-depth details about anxiety but that was something so important that it couldn't be missed. Aza's best friend's character is potrayed as the,"normal", society which doesn't understand what is wrong with people like Aza and asks all the necessary questions which is on such people's mind, clearing out the doubts.
One of the things that keeps the reader attracted to the story is the use of some amazing quotes time and again. Some of the best quotes for me are-
You wouldn't miss anything big if you didn't read this novel, but I would surely recommend you to read it even though the plot is not amazing but the awareness spread through this novel is required.
My Verdict-3/5

- "Your now is not your forever,"
- "You do belong to yourself, even when your thoughts don't."
- "Life is a series of choices between wonders."
- "It never seemed like the right time. But ofcourse, it never is the right time."
