BOOK REVIEW : SUNSHINE TOWN

Author : Maniissh Aroraa

Set in the 90's, this book traces the life of Shlok, who is just like any other teenager, a procastinator and a daydreamer. The author talks about the major life decisions a teenager has to make to make something of themselves. The writing is lucid so that it can be understood by anyone, hence it is an easy read.
In India most of the children have a parental pressure on them to choose science as their major and become an engineer or a doctor; this book explores this matter and asks the parents to be supportive of their children and their choices in life. The author also tries to convey the thoughts of the child who has made his parent's goal his own.
This book tells the reader that no matter how many times you fail, you should try again because there are always more options to be explored which you may not even know exist. As someone who had similar choices like the protagonist, Shlok, I could relate to the character as well as the story. I did feel the deatils of Shlok's preparation were way too lengthy and not required, and the synopsis of the book doesn't do the story justice.
Someone who has not gone through the pressure of preparing for an entrance exam may not really understand the story, but I would recommend this book to anyone going through this phase of their life as this book helps you reassure yourself that no hardwork goes in vain and that everything happens for the best.

My Verdict- 3/5
