Military History Of India

Author : Uma Prasad Thapliyal
Number of pages : 497

India, as a country has a lot of rich history which is waiting to be talked about and the author takes advantage of precisely that. Advertised as a book covering all major aspects of the military history of India, this book is about so much more.
Thapliyal, introduces the reader to the history of war and to some extent India by beginning the book by talking about the 1600s. He very slowly and smoothly keeps moving forward in time all the while capturing the attention of the reader by not only talking about the military organisation in each period but also describing the wars or the reasons leading to a change in the military history.
The soul of the book is the perfect description of each war, battle, fight leading to a change in military organisation because that's the interesting part which keeps the reader hooked otherwise no one wants to read straight up facts and numbers.
This book not only covers the changes in military organisation but also catalogues the various operations undertaken by the Indian Armed forces through the centuries within the country and overseas. It gives a brief description of some major organisations of our country and the changes in uniform and insignia of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force over time.
This book is so detailed and one of it's kind that I see it becoming a part of a curriculum. There is no other book out there that covers such a topic. Hence, I would definitely recommend this book for a history enthusiast, a researcher, and/or an informed reader.

My Verdict : 5/5
