BOOK REVIEW : WHEN I HIT YOU
Author : Meena Kandasamy
"I am the woman who asked for tenderness and got raped in return. I am the woman who has done her sentence."
Let me start this review with the cover of the book. I know we should not judge a book by it's cover but this book has such a strong and fierce cover truly resonating with what's inside of the book. Not only that, the hardback of the book is pastel pink which I think is very subtle, for me the pink colour represents women and the fact that it is pastel pink which is a new type of colour represents the new age of women.
We know that this book is basically the life of the author as a wife, but in the book there are no names mentioned just a story which the author wants to tell. This book is not for the faint hearted.
For the first time with the help of this book I have come to know that strong, independent women can also be in an abusive marriage because yes, love blinds us all. I have so much to say about this book but no words will do justice.
This book is an eye opener infact the stories of anyone who has been through an abiusive marriage is an eye opener and we should take heed from them and not tell them in return that why didn't they leave early! Nobody knows what to do in situations like these, we all think that it will get better but it takes a lot of time and strength to come to terms with the unexpected reality.
After the first half of the book, I was unable to connect to the story because of the author's way of writing but that didn't last long. This book shows how one can be tortured mentally and physically. Freedom is such a luxury that we often don't realise how important it is. Read this book, pass it on and always be kind.
My Verdict- 5/5
